Anyone closely involved with the Band family will already know that one of our Musical Directors, WO1 Esther Freeborn, Bandmaster in the Corps of Army Music, is currently serving our country in Afghanistan. To say the Band is immensly proud of her would be an understatement, and we were delighted to see that she has recently posted a blog detailing her experiences in Afghanistan. The blog can be found here.
The Band recently got together and sent a whole load of care packages, full of goodies from the UK, including sweets and her favourite magazines which she has now received safely. We'd like to take the opportunity to wish Esther well for the remainder of her tour, and look forward to seeing her at Richardson Hall very soon!

The Band will be celebrating this week as our Band Director, Ian Yeoman, receives his British Empire Medal. After joining the band in 1978, Ian worked his way through the ranks to become Band Director in 2002. In the 12 years since becoming Director, Ian has led the band from strength to strength, winning multiple contest trophies and World Championship medals along the way.
The Band of 2014 now finds itself regularly being invited abroad to prestigious events, including the Sweden International Tattoo in Malmö and Berlin Military Tattoo last year, and the International Europe Day celebrations in Bucharest, Romania, in 2014.
The award of the British Empire Medal to Ian in the 2014 New Year's Honours list is testament to Ian’s never-ending effort and dedication to the Band.
